HO scale Athearn 86' Hi-Cube auto boxcar UP #980327 special re-build.  This is a classic blue box plastic model upgraded with all molded-on grabs irons cut off and replaced with custom made brass wire grab irons, end panel hand railings, brass see thru end platforms, air pull/release rod w/bracket, end panel wood repair board, plastic rod air piping (to give some underframe detailing), brake chain w/bracket, custom weathering/paint fading and lead weight added. This car meets NMRA weights and coupler height standards.  Note: This car has custom made operating coupler draft gearboxes w/custom tensioning.  These draft gearboxes were designed to be serviced or adjusted as desired tension.  The couplers pull out to swivel side to side for tighter radius' and push in to rest centered in gearbox for pushing control.  This car is from my private collection built many many years ago.  Over 30 Hours went into building this car.
